This British-made Realm & Empire Commando hat is a modern interpretation of the original knitted military-issue style hat worn by commandos.
Formed in 1940 by the British Army, special commando battalions were teams of soldiers trained to operate in combat units under special command.
These forces were designed to be highly mobile specialists in surprise raiding and reconnaissance, carrying all they needed for missions that were to be completed in under 36 hours.
