Deeds Not Words pen

This wooden pen is inspired by a tin button badge, produced in 1916 as a memorial to Lord Kitchener and held in IWM’s world renowned collection.

Kitchener was made Secretary of State for War in 1914, and led a campaign to recruit volunteers to massively expand the British Army, raising ‘Kitchener’s Army’. He died in 1916 after the warship taking him to negotiations in Russia was sunk by a mine laid by a German submarine near the Orkney Islands.
